What Is an Obstetrician?
An obstetrician is a doctor who specializes in helping women plan their pregnancy, providing care during pregnancy, and assisting women during childbirth. To become an obstetrician, one must finish four years of medical school and another four years of OG-GYN residency. Some obstetricians may also complete additional subspecialties like reproductive endocrinology and infertility, female pelvic medicine, and reconstructive surgery or maternal-fetal medicine (MFM).
