What is Hiccups?

Hiccups are properly called singultus and are one of the little physiological quirks that sometimes come unexpectedly. Let’s take a case where you are having a lovely meal or chit-chatting with friends, and then—hic. This particular case is a perfect example of the sudden closure of the vocal cords/voice box along with the involuntary contraction of the diaphragm, which indeed is the muscle that is involved primarily in the respiration process. In fact, the noise “hic” is the essence of hiccups.
